timeline point taken from: His last appearance, which would be when Isshin revealed himself as a shinigami, before the arrancar arc proper. I'll be characterizing heavily from the earliest portion of the manga, wherin the character was spotlighted and more depth was given to him.

character's personality: Kon is conflicted. Kon is conflicted about just about everything. It's not necessarily because Kon doesn't have convictions one way or another, but that he does. His convictions are strongly black and white and so often they pull him in one direction in specific. Usually, this direction doesn't align with other people's, say, Kurosaki Ichigo's, especially when it deals with the issue of non-violence, the issue of family, and the issue of telling the truth where it's necessary.

You see, Kon has ideas about the sanctity of life, and while he's generally non-violent, he's also the type to hold a grudge. He's disgusted by the way that some people act, because you see, life is an important thing, created or otherwise. The idea that anyone shouldn't be treated as valuable is disgusting to him and reminds him of the fact that . He is like this because he was sentenced to death by the people who created him.

Which is not to say that Kon is Ghandi. He has his flaws, like anyone else, and like his virtues his flaws are equally accentuated. To be honest, he's not very bright, and he doesn't think ahead, and most of the time when he's not thinking with that glowing superego of his, it's all hot and wet and stuff born of Kon's overactive lizard hindbrain. Kon doesn't like being belittled; he has a righteous streak and a temper when he needs it. He's got a strong flight-reaction when danger presents itself. Kon likes sex. See, he's never had a body before, not since he was born. And now that he's out, stuck in one that belongs to a fifteen-year-old boy (who isn't himself very interested in rumpy-pumpy), Kon wants nothing more than to use it. That includes running, jumping, eating, drinking, hugging, and, of course, groping and masturbating. Hide your daughters.

He's your equal, and unlike the rest of you, he's not willing to hurt a single living thing unless it's a true life-or-death situation. Not even an ant.

character's background: On the very day that he was created, Kon was also sentenced to be destroyed. He was 'lucky' to get with other products by 'mistake.' (Or was it?) Kon is a modified soul, a kaizou konpaku, originally given to Ichigo under the guise of a normal piece of Soul Candy (artificial souls created to inhabit gigai while shinigami aren't inhabiting them.) Once it was discovered that Kon was a contraband modified soul, rather than a common artificial soul, Ichigo was informed that the other modified souls were slowly being destroyed as Seireitei discovered their existence. Having learned that Kon would be destroyed if returned to Seireitei and not fully trusting Urahara, Kon was given a ‘body’ to inhabit by Ichigo, a plush toy of the lion Ponkichi from the children's nature show Carnivore Kingdom. He was then also given the name Kon by Ichigo, the first syllable of konpaku (because Kai would have been ‘too cool’ for Kon, and that pissed Ichigo off).

As Ichigo spent more time as a shinigami, notably when he disappeared into Soul Society for the 100 issue arc of doom, Kon was in turn given more time in Ichigo’s body, being told by Ichigo that his job was to protect Ichigo’s sisters (Kon, in turn, thought that Ichigo was a bit of a lousy brother.) Slightly thereafter, Kon was attacked by a pseudo-Arrancar, the Grand Fisher, who was killed by Kurosaki Isshin just as he was about to kill Kon and Ichigo's body.
